In Ramadan, Muslims worldwide seek unlimited holy blessings to cease and worship Allah SWT. A delighted Eid Day was celebrated to reward the journey of supplications and efforts during the month of Ramadan. It remains incomplete if Eid is not wished for the whole universe to be filled with pleasures, smiles, colors, love, sympathies, good feelings, joys, and peace.

International Women’s Day is observed on 8 March every year, with the annual event being recognized by the United Nations (UN). 30 January 2020, when the Covid-19 outbreak was declared to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by WHO, no one could have ever thought that this pandemic will last for more than a year and predictively will continue to exist by 2022.
Life started to change; social distancing was regulated, school and work must shift to online-based meetings, and most significantly, masks should always be used. These changes are not only felt by humans in the whole world, but also by the wildlife animals. This sentence might trigger a question in you; what does it have to do with the wildlife creatures?
Even before the first patient of Covid-19 was discovered in Wuhan, China, on December 1st, 2019, plastic waste has already become a crucial problem. Many animals suffered due to plastic waste threw away carelessly so that it ends up in the wild and consumed by the animals that live in it.
Hence, the increasing amount of mask consumption also means an immense amount of mask waste ends up in the environment, accelerating the danger faced by wild animals. Masks often contain plastics such as polypropylene, making it hard to degrade in the soil after consumption and usually ends up in wildlife, disrupting and threatening the animals progressively.
When the pandemic seems to affect not only humans but also wildlife, is there any feasible solution to this problem?
Sung Yeon Hwang, a professor from the Research Center for Bio‐Based Chemistry at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT), stated that biodegradable masks answer this problem. They propose alternative materials with enhanced properties to make biodegradable filters to curb plastic waste. The team’s experiments showed that the biodegradable filter was just as efficient as N95 filters, removing 98.3% of 2.5 µm (PM2.5) particles in a test, and decomposed within four weeks in composting soil. The researchers manufactured their biodegradable filters through a process called electrospinning, which is an already well-established technique used in industry, which they hope will facilitate their commercial availability.

Jakarta, 11 February 2021 - International Day of Women and Girls in science is commemorated every February, 11th and set by the UN to recognize the critical role women and girls play in science and technology, and how important it is to be applied in the professional environment.
This year at Greenhope, we celebrate the IDWGS by starting the Life at Greenhope edition to start sharing the exciting story of our team in the Research and Development Department. The R&D science girls are very passionate to keep researching, testing, evaluating, and improving Greenhope’s biodegradable technologies, such as Ecoplas (the cassava-based biodegradable bioplastic), Oxium (Oxo-biodegradable Additive), and Naturloop (Starch-based Fully Compostable Resin).

Davos, 21-24 Januari 2020 ‒ Greenhope berkesempatan untuk kembali memenuhi undangan terbatas dari The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship yang juga merupakan inisiator World Economic Forum dan berpartisipasi pada perayaan hari jadi WEF ke-50 di Davos, Swiss pada awal tahun 2020 ini.
Dalam pertemuan kaliber internasional tersebut Tommy Tjiptadjaja bertemu dengan berbagai pemimpin dunia, politikus, pemangku kepentingan, aktivis lingkungan dan sosial, dan banyak lainnya yang kesemuanya berkumpul dengan satu tujuan, sesuai tajuk WEF, yaitu, “Committed to Improving the State of the World” (Berkomitmen untuk meningkatkan situasi dunia).
Ada lebih dari 30 sesi tentang polusi sampah plastik di konferensi kali ini di Davos, dan Tommy hadir dan berkontribusi di banyak sesi diskusi tersebut. Tommy juga membawakan sesi “Innovation for Impact: Engineering Sustainable Plastics” dimana beliau membagikan paradigma holistik 4R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Return to Earth/Recapture) dimana material inovasi mudah terurai Greenhope seperti bioplastik singkong Ecoplas, Oxium, sebagai bagian dari Return to Earth agar mengurangi penumpukan sampah plastik di TPA maupun ketika tidak sengaja tercecer di alam. Peran Anak Muda, Teknologi Ramah Lingkungan Greenhope, dan Kolaborasi Global
Pada refleksinya yang dimuat di Indonesia Tatler, April 2020, halaman 60 s/d 65 dengan judul “Pillars of the Earth”, Tommy Tjiptadjaja menyampaikan betapa ia sangat mengapresiasi peranan anak muda jaman “now” yang banyak menjadi changemakers seperti Greta Thunberg yang dengan sangat berani mengkritik orang dewasa dan meminta mereka bertanggung jawab atas eksploitasi sumber daya alam yang mengakibatkan berbagai kerusakan alam di muka bumi.
Anak muda perlu dilibatkan, mengingat banyak berbagai keputusan yang dibuat oleh orang dewasa, pemimpin-pemimpin senior, mempunyai dampak yang besar ke masa depan yang mempunyai konsekuensi harus ditanggung dan dihidupi oleh generasi muda tersebut. Prof. Klaus Schwab, di ulang tahun World Economic Forum yang ke-50 kali ini, secara sadar dan sengaja mengundang perwakilan2 anak muda yang terbanyak.
“Kolaborasi yang setara dan saling menghormati, jujur, kontekstual dan holistik, antara solusi-solusi lokal dan global, sangat dibutuhkan jika ingin berdampak yang signifikan di dalam memerangi masalah sampah plastik yang masif dan sistemik ini. Hal lain yang juga disampaikan oleh Tommy adalah, Greenhope sebagai Perusahaan Sosial-Teknologi Ramah Lingkungan memiliki misi untuk merubah plastik konvensional menjadi lebih berkelanjutan, baik itu dengan teknologi plastik mudah terurai, Oxium, maupun bioplastik (plastik nabati dari singkong yang mampu terurai dan dapat menjadi kompos), yaitu Ecoplas dan Naturloop.
Kolaborasi yang setara dan saling menghormati, jujur, holistik, panduan solusi lokal (bottom-up) dan global (top-down) yang berimbang, kontekstual, sangat dibutuhkan. Pandangan-pandangan yang masih ada baik dari elemen-elemen tertentu di dunia internasional maupun lokal seperti “kita selalu benar”, “dunia barat/timur/selatan/utara selalu benar”, “solusi x yang terbaik”, “one global solution untuk seluruh dunia”, itu tidak akan efektif. Tommy membagikan di salah satu sesi, bahwa paduan best practice dunia bisa sangat membantu, tetapi karena sampah adalah masalah2 lokal yang tidak terlepas dari budaya, kompleksitas infrastruktur, cuaca, daya beli masyarakat lokal, sudah pasti dibutuhkan solusi lokal dipadukan dengan kearifan lokal juga. Solusi-solusi seperti Go-Jek motorcycle taxi and delivery, contohnya, tidak akan mungkin bisa ditemukan di Zurich, Davos, Amsterdam, atau banyak tempat lain lagi yang sudah kaya, tidak macet, densitas penduduk yang jauh lebih rendah, dst. Kuncinya adalah kejujuran, objektivitas/tidak bias, dan open minded agar bisa memadukan solusi global dan lokal yang terbaik, tepat guna, kontekstual.
Isu masif dan sistemik ini hanya bisa ditaklukan bersama-sama jika segala pihak dari segala kalangan dapat bekerjasama secara kolaboratif sebagai bagian dari sebuah ekosistem yang berkesinambungan. Jadi sudah selayaknya baik itu industri, korporasi, NGO, Pemerintahan Lokal maupun Internasional, hingga Akademisi untuk bahu membahu memenuhi panggilan bumi pertiwi dan menciptakan perubahan untuk masa ini dan masa depan. Greenhope, sebagai social enterprise dari Indonesia, milik Indonesia, dengan teknologi2 ber-paten temuan ilmuwan Indonesia, siap sumbangsih bekerja sama dengan siapa saja, untuk kontribusi nasional maupun internasional menangani masalah sampah plastik ini.
Menanggapi kesimpang-siuran berita viral mengenai Kantong Kurban Oxium, kami, Greenhope (PT Harapan Interaksi Swadaya) selaku produsen teknologi, paten, dan merk dagang Oxium ingin menyampaikan bahwa hal ini terjadi karena ketidak-sengaja-an pihak penjual independen/ reseller kami yang salah menyebutkan teknologi Oxium, plastik oxo-biodegradable sebagai Ecoplas, plastik yang terbuat dari singkong.
Kami menyadari hal ini menimbulkan kebingungan di masyarakat, untuk itu kami ingin menyampaikan beberapa klarifikasi sebagai berikut:
1) Bahwa memang benar Oxium (plastik oxo-biodegradable) bukan plastik yang terbuat dari singkong, melainkan aditif yang mampu mengurai plastik dalam waktu 2-5 tahun yang ditandai dengan berkurangnya bobot molekul plastik dan berubah menjadi H2O, CO2 dan biomassa yang sudah diuji menggunakan standar uji ASTM D 6954, D 5208 dan D 3826.
2) Oxium sudah tersertifikasi SNI Ekolabel Ramah Lingkungan 7188:7, Ekolabel Swadeklarasi Mudah Terurai yang dikeluarkan oleh KLHK, Sertifikasi Halal, Ekolabel Singapura hingga Ekolabel Malaysia.
3) Oxium juga sudah mendapat Paten Indonesia, Paten Amerika, dan Paten Singapura.
4) Oxium sudah banyak diteliti oleh peneliti independen dan kredibel baik nasional seperti ITB, UNESA, dll, maupun internasional yang jurnal-jurnal ilmiahnya dapat diakses secara online juga.
Untuk itu teknologi Oxium merupakan teknologi plastik oxo-degradable ramah lingkungan mudah terurai yang sudah teruji dan tersertifikasi yang tidak perlu diragukan lagi keabsahannya. Semoga bisa menjawab keresahan-keresahan di masyarakat dan dapat diluruskan agar tidak menjadi hoax semata.
Mari sama-sama mengawasi dan mengontrol penyebaran berita agar tidak berujung hoax demi Indonesia yang lebih baik.
