Jakarta, 18 February 2021 - Technological innovation has been proven as a powerful method in reducing operational costs, as well as increasing competitiveness and company productivity. However, these innovations often only have a positive impact on the ‘economic cost' or operating costs of the company, but not on the 'environmental cost'.

In fact, environmental pollution has become a global problem that must be addressed immediately. And, one industry that has a big share in solving this problem is the F&B industry.

Nimbly, a mobile solution that transforms manual checklists into instant insights by enabling frontline workers to implement standard operating procedures and automate workflows in a simple way, collaborated with Greenhope, a socio-technology enterprise redesigning the future of plastics using bio-based and biodegradable material and ecorasa, a supplier of environmentally friendly F&B packaging, to carry-out a webinar entitled "Cost Reduction through Innovation".

Both the companies are no strangers to eco-innovation that can help your F&B business reduce negative impacts on the environment without sacrificing company productivity and profitability. Most importantly, it is available and affordable for Indonesian companies.

Why do Green Innovations are urgently needed?

Libbis Sujessy, Head of Partnerships and Social Innovations from Greenhope, explained that plastic issues, global warming, and climate change are interlinked with each other. The environmental costs caused by global warming, especially plastic waste end up in the environment, are extremely costly. Green innovations are crucial to protect the environment, the society, and to reduce the environmental costs caused by the impacts of global warming.

Fakhri Ramadhan, Engagement Lead from ecorasa, also added that by the end of 2019, the waste produced by DKI Jakarta was approximately 7000 tons per day, with 20% of which was plastic wastes. Conventional plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose. If the volume continues to increase and the only waste management solution offered is landfilling, then the problem of plastic wastes will keep increasing.

Theresia Marcella as the Business Development Manager from Nimbly Technologies also shared that in the last 5 years, there is an increase in the awareness of business owners regarding the urgency of saving costs, especially during a pandemic. The efforts to resolve this issue are a long-run process. Other than reducing the use of plastic packaging, businesses can also reduce environmental costs through operational digitization. By eliminating paperwork, businesses can reduce the usage of approximately 20,000+ pages of paper a year and cut a lot of unnecessary operational costs like printing and overtime fees for manual data entry.

Technological and green innovations should walk hand-in-hand to effectively cut the environmental and operational costs in today’s society. It is time for every business to collaborate with many parties in tackling the issue as it is too big to be solved by the company alone.
