Jakarta, 22 August 2025 – At the 2nd Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (AIGIS 2025), Greenhope joined government leaders, industry players, and partners in a landmark moment for Indonesia’s sustainable future. The summit, hosted by the Ministry of Industry at the Jakarta Convention Center, was marked by a joint pledge to accelerate the adoption of bioplastics as a solution to the nation’s plastic waste challenge.
Initiated by the Indonesian Sustainable Materials Association (AMBI) and Greenhope, in collaboration with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the pledge was signed in the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). The commitment reflects a shared vision aligning policy, innovation, and industry to build a robust ecosystem for sustainable materials in Indonesia.
Greenhope is proud to have stood alongside leading companies including Suparma, Ecorasa, Sarirasa, Blibli, PT Kharisma Plastikindo, PT Harapan Hijau Lestari, PT Aero Tekno Utama, Gokomodo, Dinakara, and Tessa, who share the commitment to scale up eco-friendly packaging and bioplastic adoption across the country. A highlight of AIGIS 2025 was the visit of Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono to Greenhope’s booth. Their presence underscored the government’s recognition of bioplastics as a strategic pathway toward circular economy goals and the national target of resolving Indonesia’s waste problem by 2029.
“Bioplastics are not just about reducing plastic waste. They are about creating local value, supporting farmers, and driving Indonesia’s competitiveness in sustainable innovation,” said Tommy Tjiptadjaja, Chairman of AMBI and Co-Founder of Greenhope.
The Ministry of Industry has already set a Green Industry Standard for bioplastic bags under Regulation No. 55/2020, and the government has advanced the Net Zero Emissions target for the manufacturing sector to 2050, a decade ahead of the national timeline. Together with private sector commitments, these steps pave the way for Indonesia to become a leader in sustainable materials.
At Greenhope, we believe the journey has only just begun. Through collaboration with policymakers, businesses, and communities, we are committed to ensuring that bioplastics and eco-friendly packaging are no longer the alternative, but the standard for Indonesia’s sustainable growth.
