WORLD Expo 2025 Osaka was held from September 15-21. Bappenas collaborated with Greenhope as one of the 40 participants representing The Indonesia Pavilion at the exhibition.
The Indonesia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which is open to visitors from April 13 to October 13, 2025, showcases a blend of tradition and vision. The event also aims to increase foreign direct investment (FDI) while demonstrating Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and global partnerships.
Greenhope brought around 56 products to be exhibited at the event. These products include bioplastics and biodegradable additives that have been used in packaging and plastic applications for various products and brands. The showcased items ranged from raw materials to films and other forms of sustainable packaging solutions.
Greenhope is a technology company focused on plastic waste management through the use of sustainable materials. One of the concepts it promotes is “Return to Earth,” which offers biodegradable and bio-based solutions to address plastic pollution and the climate crisis.
Greenhope’s products are designed to naturally decompose at the end of their lifecycle, helping reduce plastic accumulation in landfills and, if accidentally leaked into nature, accelerating safe natural degradation processes.
In addition, its bio-based products are locally sourced to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower carbon footprints.
According to Greenhope CEO Tommy Tjiptadjaja, the “Return to Earth” concept provides material solutions to replace plastic items that are too small, contaminated, unsuitable for reuse, or economically unfeasible to recycle.
“For plastic waste that truly cannot be recovered. For post-consumer items that create negative impacts in terms of energy, water, time, and cost if we try to preserve them,” he explained.
Greenhope offers several products that support sustainability principles. The first is Ecoplas, a bioplastic solution used as an environmentally friendly landfill cover. This Indonesian innovation, patented in the United States, Singapore, and Indonesia, aligns with Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works Regulation No. 3 of 2013.
Ecoplas is made from cassava starch sourced from local partner farmers. Compared to conventional plastic covers, Ecoplas is safer because it is less flammable.
Ecoplas also extends landfill lifespan while costing 50 percent less than traditional soil covers.
Ecoplas Routine Landfill Cover meets technical and functional requirements by preventing rainwater infiltration and controlling odors, thereby reducing disease spread, lowering methane gas pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, and improving air and environmental quality.
The second product is Naturloop, an environmentally friendly plastic packaging solution made from plant-based materials. The plant-based materials used are not intended for food consumption, ensuring they do not interfere with food resources for communities.
The third product is Oxium, an additive in pellet form designed to degrade plastic through oxidation and biodegradation processes. Plastic degradation that would normally take hundreds of years is accelerated to just two to five years without leaving microplastic residues. (Z-1)
